COVID-19 || Where We Go From Here / by Thomas Raggio

As an artist and professor, the last few weeks have been a whirlwind of figuring out new logistics on life. From assuring students life will go on and continuing with their education is vital. To making sure every step I take from my home to the studio is planned so I can social distance myself properly.

I have read many articles how artists don’t know how they will survive, continue creating, if they will have a job, or even those who unfortunately have already loss a position what will happen next. Fear is undoubtedly on everyone’s mind. It is hard to have optimism and stay positive during these times, but it is important to do so! Once this is over, we will be stronger and more connected as a global community than ever before.

Time and Perseverance.

I was once taught the greatest terms an artist should fully comprehend is time and perseverance. This is especially true in the current global climate we are in. With fine art museums already stating financial losses, the fallout on small and large galleries, sales and exhibitions will be immense.

I don’t have answers but only suggestions. If you are reading this and can support an artist(s), help a local gallery, or even give a donation to an institution - now is the time. There are many artists that have financial burdens due to this global pandemic. I only hope the best in humanity prevails.

-We are all in this together.

Warm Regards,

Tom
